EN 13823 Single Burning Item (SBI) Tester for Fire Resistant Wall
Panels

Product Overview
The EN 13823 Single Burning Item (SBI) tester is a critical
European standard (EN 13823:2020+A1:2022) within the Euroclass fire
classification system (EN 13501-1). This equipment evaluates the
fire reaction performance of building products (excluding
floorings) by measuring heat release rate, smoke production, and
flame spread under controlled conditions.
Standard Compliance
EN 13823:2020+A1:2022: Reaction to fire tests for building products
- Building products excluding floorings exposed to the thermal
attack by a single burning item (SBI).
Test Product Range
- Wall and ceiling linings: gypsum boards, wood panels, metal/plastic
composite panels, fiber cement boards
- Insulation materials: mineral wool, polystyrene foam, polyurethane
foam, glass fiber, rock wool
- Coatings and treatments: fire-retardant paints, varnishes,
wallpapers, decorative films
- Facade systems: ETICS, curtain wall panels, aluminum composite
panels
- Duct and linear products: pipe insulation, cable trunking covers,
ventilation duct linings
- Composite products: sandwich panels, honeycomb panels, laminates,
PVC/acrylic sheets
Design Principle
The test specimen (two vertical wings at right angles) is exposed
to a propane flame (30.7 ± 2.0 kW) from a main burner. The
20-minute test evaluates heat release, smoke production, flame
spread, and combustion droplets/particulates.
