Notes on Protection Functions

  • Short-Circuit Protection (SC): Works only for low sides with an external shunt resistor and RC filter.
  • Over-Temperature Protection (OT): When LVIC temperature exceeds the trip level (OTT), OT protection is triggered and fault outputs. The IPM does not automatically shut down IGBTs; the controller (MCU) should stop the IPM.
  • Fault Output (VCF): Controllable fault out signal corresponding to SC, UV, and OT faults. Pulse width can be fixed (min 20s) or controlled.
  • Temperature Monitoring (VOT): Can be used simultaneously with OT protection or independently with a 10k resistor connection.

Application Circuit Notes

  • Bootstrap diodes' negative electrodes should be connected directly to U, V, W pins.
  • Shunt resistor wiring should be short to prevent SC level fluctuation.
  • Ground wiring should be short to prevent noise interference.
  • Control and power grounds should be connected at a single point (N1).
  • It is recommended to use only the (15) COM pin for common supply ground.
  • Zener diodes are recommended between control supply pins for surge protection.
  • Bus capacitors should be placed close to P and N1 terminals.
  • RC filter components for CSC and VOT should be tight tolerance and temperature-compensated.
  • Input drives are active-high with a minimum 3.5k pull-down resistor.
  • VCF output is open drain and requires a pull-up resistor.
  • Direct drive from MCU is possible without opto-coupler or isolation transformer.
  • Line ripple voltage should be limited (dV/dt 1V/s, Vripple 2Vp-p).
